In December, the air temperature will be 1–2 degrees above normal, and the amount of precipitation will be approximately 10% less than normal. Director of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Levon Azizyan said this in an interview with PastInfo. “We expect a warmer and less snowy December compared to the norm, which, one might say,
typical for recent years. Since 2017, in almost all years our Decembers have been warmer than normal,” Azizyan said. According to him, today there is a serious lack of snow cover in the republic. If during this period at an altitude of 3200 meters there should be a layer of snow of 60–70 cm, now at altitudes up to
3200 meters of snow is significantly less. “The lack of snow will negatively affect water resources next year, because in the republic the main factor in replenishing water resources is snow melting,” said the director of the center. Azizyan also said that precipitation plays a role in improving air quality,
however, today’s precipitation was average in amount. Despite this, the anticyclonic area over the Ararat Valley has partially weakened. “The anticyclonic area that formed over the Ararat Valley has partially collapsed — not completely, of course, but the process of stagnation of cold air has stopped to a certain extent, which will have a positive effect on air quality,” the specialist added.
